Documentary work
Earlier in my career I did a little work on a few documentaries, Docs are timeconsuming! But rewarding.
Tom Petty & The heartbreakers runnin’ down a dream
Back in 2006ish I was super lucky to be a supervising producer for a scattering of days on the Peter Bogdanovich documentary about Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. It was a total blast to hear so many stories from Tom & Mike first hand, and I even got to film them rehearse for their 30th anniversary tour. Which was like being at my own private Heartbreakers show. It was incredible.
Michael des barres - WHo do you want me to be?
Around 2010 I was the producer on a feature documentary about the life of actor & musician Michael Des Barres. A huge highlight from the project was flying to Japan to film the 20+ year reunion of Silverhead, the first band Michael was in from the 70s. It’s a fun little film about taking a hard look at yourself so you can grow and reach for your dreams, or maybe just be happy with everything you’ve got.
Dave McCoy & the Mammoth plan
After the recession I got it into my head to make a film about Dave McCoy, famous CA skier and founder of the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area. At the time much of the news was about shady corporations, wall street, and greed. It was interesting to look at a story about a super happy guy who ran a profitable business by following his passion, not just trying to make a bunch of money. Unfortunately we never found funding, but we did get to make this nifty pitch trailer.
